Why the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance?

Collectively as a family we decided to support the WNAA after reading about the good work the charity does as well as seeing their beautiful helicopter in action at the Sywell Airshows which are held bi-annually to raise funds for the WNAA. We also think it is crazy that the WNAA recieves no government funding for its operations, when were living in a society where National Lottery money is splashed around into some not so deserving causes.

What the WNAA does.

The Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) was established in October 2003 to provide an emergency medical service for the heart of England including Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes. Prior to this, the region had relied on older, slower aircraft with limited space for onboard patient treatment. The new service shifted the emphasis from transporting casualties to hospital, to recognising the need to get senior Doctors and Consultants to the scene of incidents as quickly as possible, providing lifesaving treatment and medication at the scene and en-route to hospital.

Fact File
The WNAA is one of only three services outside of London to routinely carry a Doctor on board. Our primary response area is the 2000 square miles of Coventry, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes and some of the key border areas like Market Harborough, Banbury and Solihull. However, we also help out our neighbours under a mutual aid agreement, in Birmingham, the West Midlands, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Leicestershire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

The service has 12 Doctors, 12 Paramedics & 3 Pilots which service a population of around 1.1 million people. Based at Coventry Airport, in the three years it has been operating, it has flown over 5500 missions. With an ever-increasing callout rate of between 120 and 150 callouts per month, the WNAA is the busiest air ambulance in the UK.

No Government or National Lottery Funding!
The WNAA is a registered charity and relies totally on donations and sponsorship. The average cost per mission is around £850 and the annual running cost of the service is over £1.4 million. Currently only able to operate in daylight hours due to the restrictive leasing costs of flying at night, WNAA aims to become the first service in the UK to operate 24 hours per day by raising over £2 million during 2007.

Why Diabetes UK?

I (Karl) chose Diabetes UK due as I diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in March of this year. I lost my Class 2 Pilot's Medical and thus right to hold & train for a Private's Pilot's License. Click here to see a news paper article from the Evening Telegraph about my diabetes & flying. To return to the website click on your back arrow. I have since started Pilot's With Diabetes www.pilotswithdiabetes.com and I/other NPPL holders can fly passengers privately if they contact us for advice on how to get the new medical issued to them.

Diabetes UK have been very supportive during bouts of emotional as well as physical complication and have offered their support for PWD.

What Diabetes UK does.

Diabetes UK is the charity for people with diabetes, their family, friends and carers. Their mission is to improve the lives of people with the condition and work towards a future without diabetes.

They are one of the largest patient organisations in Europe. They stand up for the interests of people with diabetes by campaigning for better standards of care. They are the largest funder in the UK of research into better treatments for diabetes and the search for a cure. They also provide practical support and information and safety-net services to help people manage their diabetes.

Why Crazy Hats Breast Cancer Appeal?

Nicola, my mother is currently in remission with breast cancer and we wanted to support a locally based charity where we could see the money being spent & invested into care services.

What Crazy Hats Breast Cancer Appeal does.

Crazy Hats is a Northamptonshire based charity which is now 5 years old. The charity is here to support women and men who are going through treatment for breast cancer, who are about to undertake treatment or are fighting the battle to become cancer survivors.

They raise money throughout Northamptonshire for work at the two major hospitals in Kettering and Northampton and they link with the Breast Reconstruction team at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Their major fundraising event is the Crazy Hats Walk each spring, but events are held throughout the year. They want to expand the support we can give to anyone who is touched by breast cancer.
